The protagonist of a film doesn’t need to be likable, but it is difficult to connect to Baby on any level, mainly because he has no concrete traits. I’m pissed at Rotten Tomatoes for recommending this trash. Within the first five minutes of Baby Driver I was stuck on the obvious comparisons to Nicolas Winding Refn’s brilliant film Drive (2011) – a personal favourite of mine. When Baby goes on trial, for example, one woman says that although Baby stole her car, he returned her purse, so he must be kind at heart. You can only coast on style for so long—this lemon runs out of gas less than halfway through its brutally overlong (nearly two hours!) The part where he starts singing to his foster dad was rancid. His backstory was a cookie-cutter template, as were his motives of protecting his new love interest. People avoid things that traumatize them. There’s nothing in his mannerisms that makes him seem crazy, even though his actions portray him as being insane. Baby, however, is falling in love with Debora (Lily James), and he must figure out how to save the girl and not get killed himself. you will make money if you are Edgar Whatever….it’s just cool to like these overrated entertainers so they made their money while calling Stupid Name Driver cool. Drive was a beautiful, unexpected thriller with a brilliant soundtrack and moving characters that drew you into the film. From the opening heist getaway scene to the brooding protagonist driver trying to protect his love interest from his reluctant involvement in organised crime, the similarities are inescapable. For the past few weeks I’d heard a lot about Baby Driver. Who Should Be The Cover Star Of AEW’s Video Game? Jon Hamm, Eiza González and Jamie Foxx portrayed some of the better characters of the film, providing some interesting and amusing dialogue – that is until Jon Hamm takes on the hackneyed antagonist-that-refuses-to-die persona towards the end of the film. It was everything that I could have asked for from an Edgar Wright action movie. After Baby pays up, Doc brings him in for yet another high-reward, high-reward job. In a nutshell: cringe, cliche, gimmicks, total lack of originality, poor acting, etc… I can see this movie being popular among teens but anyone over the age of 20 that likes this is nuts. As mentioned above, the cinematography is brilliant, the action is thrilling and the soundtrack is impressively melded with the visuals of the film. I have to say this was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen and actually fell asleep during another one of the many violent scenes. I just saw Baby Driver (2017) and it was pretty fucking awesome. Everyone has a great character that has depth, both in writing and performance (for the most part, but we’ll get to that).
